While this wasn't for art, the Books, Cooks, and Culture senior seminar went to New York City this past weekend! We did very little directly related to our class, but a lot that was related to art and art history! We visited the Morgan Museum/Library (that apparently was not an art museum but was pretty much an art museum), the MOMA, and the Metropolitan. I had never been to the Morgan before, and found it absolutely fascinating. The architecture that changed between the many buildings was beautiful, and made me consider how architectural trends correspond with trends in visual arts. We visited the MOMA sadly for not nearly enough time; I think I could live there. Additionally, in the Met, I saw a lot of Japanese art, which was new for me because most of the art history I have had has been pretty Eurocentric. After these visits, I have definitely decided that I want to pursue a career in curating. |
