I adore this project. Although I could glean little from the apparently roughly translated artists' websites, I welcome the idea of makeup as art: as someone who paints on a new face everyday, I am glad there is a newfound respect for face paint. On the other hand, I know that I could never have the skill and eye to use what could almost be considered a trompe l'oleil effect. Additionally, I found it interesting how this combined painting and photography. After the camera became used, many artists went into a more abstract direction because they no longer needed to make things look exactly as they appeared. Because of this, I appreciate the irony that Kutsan and Khokhlov photographed women painted to look abstracted.
